2003 Development of (use class A1) retail foodstore, market stalls and enclosure, fur and feathermarket buildings and associated access, parking and landscaping. Penistone Market Area, St Mary’s St/Market St, Penistone for Dransfield Properties.
The Town Council considered this application in detail. Moved by Cllr L Collett, seconded by Cllr D Lofthouse and RESOLVED to support the application with the following observations and requests.
· Concern was raised that there will be insufficient car parking spaces to meet demand on Market days. It was suggested that the area with netlon turf to the rear of the supermarket be made available for overflow parking on Market Days of Thursday and Saturday. It has also been suggested that the parking are being developed for the bowling club could also be made available on market days.
· The applicants must not deviate from the agreed size of the development. I.E. agreed floor space of the supermarket store. Concern was raised that this has happened in other areas.
· The market area should be available for more flexible use on other days for perhaps other markets. The fur and feather building should be for multi purpose use and available to the community on other days.
· The development is reducing the land area available for the recreation ground and this has caused most concern with residents and group users. There is a strip of land in private ownership to the south of the field. The developers are asked to consider purchasing this to put back into the recreation ground to minimise the loss felt by community groups.

This planning application removes a double garage and does not replace it with any parking facilities. This will add to the difficulties which already exist for parking in this area.
2102 Erection of single storey workshop/games room (Amended Proposals Part Retrospective) The Lawns, Barnsley Road, Penistone for Mr G Fisher.
This site has been the subject of much controversy. It is considered an over development of the site. The workshop/games room is potentially the source of noise pollution to the neighbours who have previously objected to this development.
