A minutes silence was held out of respect for Cllr George Punt who died suddenly at the end of April.

 

PRESENT

The Town Mayor Cllr Mrs B Hinchliff, and Cllrs J B Lucas, R Hinchliff, A Simon, Mrs A Rusby,

D Harrison, Mrs E A Elders, Mrs N Collett, P Hand-Davis, N Gregory, J Unsworth, P Starling

and The Clerk. 5 members of the public were also in attendance.

 

ABSENT

Apologies were accepted from Cllr D Lofthouse and Mrs C A Bradbury

 

APPOINTMENT OF TOWN MAYOR

It was MOVED by Cllr D Harrison, seconded by Cllr Mrs A Rusby and RESOLVED that Cllr Mrs N Collett be appointed Town Mayor. 

 

Cllr Collett thanked members of the Council for her appointment, saying she will work hard for Penistone. She thanked Cllr Mrs B Hinchliff and her consort Cllr R Hinchliff for their achievements during a difficult year, which had been well handled.

 

The new Chairman has three aims for the year in office.

Firstly, to promote Penistone, which will start with the Mayor’s Parade and Gala.  This has the involvement of many organisations and is enjoyed by not only local people but also visitors and tourists. It needs supporting.

Secondly, to support Yorkshire Day in Penistone, which will attract Mayors from all over the county and is our opportunity to promote local businesses and tourism.

Thirdly to promote sport and junior sport which is a very worthwhile cause which will be the beneficiary of the fundraising for the Mayor’s Charity.

Finally, the Town Council and staff are to work together and more closely with Barnsley MBC to achieve a successful year.

 

APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR ELECT

It was moved by Cllr D Harrison, seconded by Cllr Mrs A Rusby and RESOLVED that Cllr J Unsworth be appointed Mayor Elect.

 

APPOINTMENT TO COMMITTEES 2006/2007

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are members of all committees, as per Standing Orders.

 

EMERGENCY COMMITTEE

ST JOHNS COMMUNITY CENTRE

It was moved by Cllr Mrs A Rusby, seconded by Cllr Hinchliff and RESOLVED that Cllr D Harrison by the Chair of St Johns Community Centre Management Committee.

It was moved by Cllr D Harrison, seconded by Cllr Unsworth and RESOLVED that Cllr Hinchliff be Vice Chair of the Community Centre Management Committee                              

 

PARAMOUNT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Cllr Elders moved that Cllr Starling be appointed chair of the Paramount Management Committee, seconded by Cllr Unsworth.

Cllr Lucas moved that Cllr Hinchliff be appointed chair of the Paramount Management Committee, seconded by Cllr Hand Davis.

A vote was taken – 7 Votes for Cllr Starling, 4 votes for Cllr Hinchliff.  Cllr Starling therefore appointed Chair of Paramount Management Committee.

Moved by Cllr RN Gregory, seconded by Cllr B Hinchliff and RESOLVED that Cllr Bradbury be appointed Vice-Chair of Paramount Management Committee.

 

Cllr Collett thanked Cllr Elders for all the work she had done to support the Paramount during her term as Chair.

 

YORKSHIRE DAY

Moved by Cllr Unsworth, seconded by Cllr Rusby and RESOLVED that Cllr D Harrison is appointed Chair of Yorkshire Day Committee.

Moved by Cllr Elders, seconded by Cllr Harrison and RESOLVED that Vice Chair be Cllr Mrs N Collett.

HOYLANDSWAINE VILLAGE HALL RATES

A letter requesting the payment of the rates in continued support for Hoylandswaine Village Hall was received. Moved by Cllr Rusby, seconded by Cllr Lucas and RESOLVED that the payment of £88.62 be granted.

 

YORKSHIRE LOCAL COUNCILS ASSOCIATION

A letter requesting nominations for the appointments of officers to the South Yorkshire Branch has been received. These should be given to the clerk in the next fourteen days.

 

ACCOUNTS PAID

Moved by Cllr R Hinchliff and Seconded by Cllr J Unsworth and RESOLVED that the expenditure items for Penistone Town Council General Account be paid.

MAYORS PARADE AND GALA

This year Mayors Parade and Gala is on Sunday 11th June 2006. Councillors were asked to support this event by manning the gate on the day and a rota was circulated.
