60 Erection of rear single storey extension to dwelling. 29 Unwin Street, Penistone for Mr & Mrs D Morris.
61 Erection of a single garage Plot 23, Park Avenue Garage Site. For S E Lishman-Peat
Penistone Town Council has no objections to the above applications.
2142 Erection of 24 apartments in 2 and 3 storey blocks (outline) South Yorkshire Home Improvements Ltd, Hoyle Mill Lane, Thurlstone for Mr J Hutchings
The council objected to this application on several grounds. Concern was raised about access to the site, as traffic will be emerging onto the A628. This access road is only 8ft wide in parts, which is unsuitable. Ownership of this access is also unconfirmed.
It is intended to divert a public footpath along the bank of the river, which is less safe. There are also environmental issues about the disturbance of wildlife in this vicinity.
Objections were also raised about the development not being in keeping with its surroundings. Affordable housing is needed in this area and these luxury apartments will not meet these criteria. Yet more employment is being lost to the area which is disappointing.
07 Remove one Sycamore tree and one Chestnut Tree within Tree Preservation Order No. 22/1999. Gardeners Cottage, Leapings Lane, Thurlstone for Alan Miller.
Concern was raised over the number of trees that have been removed from this area over the last few years. The advice of the Tree Preservation Officer should be sought before any decision is made.
33 Demolition of existing Parish Hall and erection of detached dwelling with integral double garage. Parish Hall Site, St Saviours Church, Manchester Road, Thurlstone for Mr P Hackett & Ms B Lea.
Concerns were raised that this new build is not architecturally, in keeping with its surrounding area.
The loss of parking for the church and its services is also of concern as this may direct traffic to park on the Manchester Road, which would be dangerous.
67 Residential development and associated works (Reserved Matters) Site of former Hi-Tec Foundry (William Cook Ltd) Green Road, Penistone for Barratt Sheffield.
The Town Council objects to this application for a number of reasons. Firstly, this is a gross over development of the site. It has only one access onto Green Road, which is inadequate. The number of dwellings has dramatically increased from those originally proposed. There appears to be no children’s play area and the green space is all centred at one side of the development instead of being dispersed around the residences.
There are major concerns about the infrastructure. There appears to be no consideration for the increased capacity required for drainage and sewage purposes. There is already a problem with the increased traffic around the Springvale area. There is a huge implication for the local school, which needs addressing.
This land is another loss of an industrial site. There is also concern that this land may be contaminated with various metals under the surface. There is a radiology department next door, which could have an effect on this development.
