Penistone Library houses a huge variety of books for all interests. Very helpful staff can assist you in any enquiries you may have. Renting DVD's and VHS videos is available. Books may be renewed by phone or by visit.

Penistone Readers Group

The readers group meets informally to discuss books and authors over a brew and digestive (or rich tea if you prefer, malted milk are my favourite). Sometimes the group will each choose a different book to read, sometimes everyone will read the same book. In some meetings the focus will be on authors who write in the same style or genre e.g. crime, humour.
You decide as a group what to read next widening your reading experience as you go. Share your favourite and your least favourite books and the reading experience as a group, sharing your experience with like minded people will be a great way to enjoy your reading.

The group meets on a fortnightly basis on Monday afternoons 2-3.30pm with 14 members at present. The group always ensures that there are copies of all books we read available in audio cassette form for visually impaired members. Recent grants of funding have allowed the purchase of more reading materials.

How do I join? Simple, just turn up at the next meeting, but phone the library if you would like to talk about it with a member of staff. When you join bring along some identification which shows your name and address.

Mobile library service
Barnsley Library gives a service that is no more than one mile from anyone's home.

Large Mobile
A purpose built vehicle complete with access for wheelchairs. It holds approximately 3000 books including children's plus a collection of talking books. It operates on a fortnightly rota visiting mainly West Barnsley one week and East Barnsley the second. It also visits several schools which are more than a mile from a static library.

Reservations for books not in stock can be made for a small fee.
