Directions form junction 37 (M1):
- Junction 37 (A628) . Leave motorway (signposted Manchester) and at roundabout take the A628 exit
- At the BlueBell Inn take the 2nd exit continuing along the A628 through Silkstone and up the hill along the bypass, past Hoylandswaine village.
- At the top of the hill reaching Hoylandswaine Roundabout (Junction with A629) take 2nd exit down the hill into Penistone.
- Bridge End Junction (Penistone) . At traffic signals turn left B6462 (signposted Oxspring)
- Arrive at Penistone
Directions from Manchester:
- Start out at Manchester,Gt Man . Follow signs Stockport A6
- Junction with A635/A57(M) . At traffic signals forward (signposted Stockport)
- Junction with A57 (Ardwick) . At roundabout take 2nd exit A57 (signposted Sheffield, Hyde)
- Junction with A665 . At traffic signals forward
- Junction with A6010 . At traffic signals forward
- Junction with M60/M67 . At roundabout take 2nd exit (signposted Sheffield) then shortly branch right to join Motorway M67
- Motorway Terminal Roundabout . Take 1st exit A57 (signposted Sheffield, Barnsley)
- Mottram . At traffic signals forward
- Hollingworth . At traffic signals forward A628 (signposted Barnsley)

- Woodhead (Junction with A6024) . Shortly long gradual ascent then descent to
- Flouch Roundabout (Junction with A616) . At roundabout take 2nd exit In 0.8 mile bear left

- Bridge End Junction (Penistone) . At traffic signals turn right B6462 (signposted Oxspring)
